About the Institute

Scientific schools, research and engineering applications

The Institute conducts research in key areas of theoretical and applied mechanics, combining the development of mathematical models, experimental studies, numerical simulation and the implementation of scientific results in practice.

Founder and continuity

An institute shaped by the idea of bringing science and engineering together

S.P. Timoshenko was an outstanding scientist in mechanics, one of the founders of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, and the founder and first director of the Institute of Mechanics. His idea of connecting fundamental science with engineering practice remains part of the Institute mission.
